Energy Storage for Microgrids

11-09-2017 12:03

Summary

ESS will brief on the use of a long-duration energy storage system to significantly reduce fuel consumption from fossil fuel generation in a military forward operating base (FOB). The US Army Corps of Engineers is testing alternative strategies for reducing fuel needs in FOBs.  Typical FOB electricity is produced by 60kW generators, which follow the load 100% of the time. With much of the time that electrical load being significantly less than 60kW, the fuel efficiency can be very poor. We will report on the significant fuel reductions that can be achieved in an energy storage-based microgrid with generators-only.
