High Capacity Transcritical CO2 Heat Pump for Human Comfort in Large Buildings

08-16-2023 12:29

Session Abstract

Transcritical CO2 heat pumps are environmentally friendly to decarbonize buildings. This technology is very efficient for water heating applications however it shows poor efficiency for space heating due to high return temperatures. In order to enhance performances, the heat pump has been decoupled from the space heating load by using thermal storage tanks. This integration has allowed the conditioning of inlet temperature at the gas cooler heat exchanger. This case study reviews details of the test facility and summarizes white paper test results obtained by operating an industrial heat pump for space heating and space cooling in large building.
