How Real-Time Hydraulic Modeling Enables Optimization at UBC

02-18-2020 14:10

Summary

Case study how UBC based on real-time distribution system hydraulic modeling gained detailed control of the operation, system optimization path, system expansion, system bottle necks, among others of their hot water based district energy system, to secure the pay-back of the $88M investment. UBC transformed their energy systems to one of world leading hot water systems. A real-time hydraulic modeling solution has become a critical decision support tool to reach top efficiency to pay back the investment and is used for the day-to-day operational management, troubleshooting, engineering, planning for changes and additions of new buildings, distribution system pipping and plant capacity. The investment paid back in less than 24 months.
