Integrating and Optimizing Renewables in District Energy Microgrids

11-01-2018 10:43

Summary

WorleyParsons's innovative solutions have enabled the development of the largest microgrid in Australia, with over 38.5MW of generation capacity at this single site, as well as numerous smaller microgrids, featuring up to 95% renewable penetration. Technologies deployed include diesel and gas generators and turbines, wind turbines, solar PV, concentrated solar power (CSP), thermal storage, batteries, and flywheels. The range of technologies, in systems including remote stand-alone and fringe-of-grid sites, and supporting loads including residential, desalination plants, and commercial and industrial (C&I), provides a broad diversity of lessons learned from the land down under to apply to the North American context.
