Managing the Utility Relationship Throughout the Microgrid Project Lifecycle & Lessons Learned from 20 Years of Microgrid Development

07-10-2017 12:28

Summary

Sophisticated energy users are increasingly pursuing onsite generation to meet their resiliency, budgetary, and sustainability objectives. As the gate keeper to grid interconnection, the local utility can be an asset or an impediment throughout design, planning, and deployment. We will review strategies for productively engaging with electrical and gas utilities throughout the microgrid project lifecycle. Topics will include:

  • Negotiating system reinforcement charges
  • Evaluating existing electrical distribution circuits and substations
  • Repurposing existing network infrastructure
  • Modeling feeder hosting capacity
  • Determining interconnection locations
  • Securing utility incentives for onsite generation
