Session Abstract

Rapid detection and treatment of microbial growth is a key factor in ensuring the safe operation of water systems.  Here we present results related to an elevated Legionella pneumophila concentration in a laid-up cooling tower.  Following detection with the Spartan Bioscience† onsite qPCR system, a sample was collected for laboratory culture and disinfection was immediately performed.  The treatment and verification were complete five days before the laboratory results were received, significantly reducing the client’s exposure.
