For a long time, Northwestern University has questioned re-locating their central plant. The university wrestled with this question in the context of updating its comprehensive framework plan, a process that successfully partnered energy and utility infrastructure planning with campus urban design. Through a process of identifying and analyzing alternative sites and a detailed re-examination of the perception that the plant is a nuisance and eyesore, Northwestern reached some surprising conclusions.
