The NY Prize is a first-in-the-nation competition to help communities create microgrids - standalone energy systems that can operate independently in the event of a power outage. The first stage of the NY Prize offered support up to $100,000 for feasibility studies, with 83 winners selected. Stage 2 consists of up to $1 Million in support for audit-grade engineering design and business planning, with 11 winners selected. Stage 3 will support project build-out and post-operational monitoring.
