UMass Amherst developed an Energy Master Plan that evaluates strategies to decarbonize campus operations. The Plan focuses on a phased conversion of the campus’ steam system to a low-temperature hot water network paired with heat pumps. This conversion would significantly increase the campus’ electrical demand and grid purchases. CES and UMass Amherst’s presentation will review the new considerations for an effective electricity purchasing strategy that provides 100% local renewable energy for a reliable electrified campus.
