Portsmouth Naval Shipyard - History of a Microgrid

11-08-2017 11:20

Summary

Ameresco has 14 year partnership with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard that modernized and helpes maintain thier central plant. The most recent upgrade was to implement an advanced microgrid capable of seamlessly islanding from the grid.  The CHP plant, designed, built, operated and maintained by Ameresco, generates 11MWe of power and 510,000lb/hr. of high pressure steam through two combustion turbines with HRSG’s.  The microgrid also includes a 500kW battery energy storage system (BESS).  Not only does it provide increased resiliency, it also reduces CO2 and NOx emissions and domestic water usage.
