A campus electrical masterplan for UMB identified the need for a substantial electrical upgrade that would result in two new switching stations, underground distribution to every campus building, and the formation of a microgrid to support planned campus growth. The project challenges are centered around distribution through an active urban campus, phasing considerations for world-class research buildings, and navigating multiple bid packages to align with funding. Throughout the multi-phase project, an opportunity has presented itself to enable and incorporate sustainable technologies and align with the growing University sustainability initiatives. This project is a great example of electrical upgrades required to support carbon goals.
