Renewing District Energy for the 21st Century

08-21-2017 13:37

Summary

UBC has operated a District energy for 90 years. Starting with Steam, UBC continually optimized this system, but with climate change, Carbon Tax and strong GHG reduction commitments UBC decided to replace in entirety with a new Hot Water district energy system. The system is fully in service and in 2015 allowed UBC to achieve a real 30% GHG reduction from a 2007 baseline, it is also achieving $5m in operational annual savings.

This presentation provides an overview of the lessons learned.
