St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center planned a $200 million-dollar expansion that was projected to “max out” the capacity of the existing infrastructure, forcing the hospital to add a costly power line or look for alternative solutions to its power needs. Keeping sustainability and energy conservation as a priority, the use of CHP allows for both electricity and thermal energy from a single fuel source, allowing the hospital to generate its own power and reduce demand. The team designed the system to work with the utility that includes a 4.6 MW Gas Turbine, a 45,000 pph Heat Recovery Steam Generator, and a 225 psig gas compressor. To control electricity supply during outages, the system is equipped with a custom Automatic Load Shed System
