The AOC embarked on an aggressive renovation and revitalization project in 2011. The project involved strategic planning and phasing to maintain reliable service to the Capitol's critical loads and work within the funding restrictions of the federal government. The final solution converted the plant to variable primary chilled water pumping, installed variable speed chillers, additional cooling tower capacity, free cooling heat exchangers and reconfigured the electrical system to support the revitalization of the facility for the next 40 years of reliable, resilient, efficient operation.
