The government of Hong Kong is implementing a first-of-its-kind District Cooling System (DCS) at Kai Tak development spanning over 320 hectares. The planned cooling capacity of the DCS is 284MWr serving about 1,730,000m2 air conditioned area. The DCS consists of a large scale centralized chillers, 40km length of chilled-water pipe laid underground/under-seabed and seawater heat rejection systems. Comparing with traditional air-cooled system, the DCS consumes 35% less in electricity and saves about 85million kWh annually.
