The Evolution of a Campus Chilled Water Distribution System

02-18-2020 11:59

Summary

Iowa State University developed a need to increase chilled water capacity on their west campus. This project installed a pair of a new 24-inch chilled water mains on the western portion of the campus under Bissell Road. By maintaining a utility master plan, ISU was able to leverage this project disruption to improve a number of systems along Bissell Road. Improvements include the addition of a steam tunnel under Bissell Road, a west campus storm water study, and a campus/roadway master plan. The unique scenario of this project involved phasing of the arterial roadway thru campus, coordination with 2 adjacent construction sites, implementation of storm water study results, and implementation of the campus roadway master plan.
