Thermal Strategies for Optimizing Microgrid Resiliency, Costs and Carbon

11-01-2018 11:24

Summary

Smart design of the thermal side of microgrids can contribute significantly to achieving key microgrid goals including cost-effective demand response, energy supply reliability and resiliency, source flexibility and carbon reduction. This presentation will describe thermal strategies for microgrids, including hot water and chilled water temperatures, heat pump systems, renewable thermal sources and energy storage systems. Effective integration of multiple sources of power, heating and cooling will be addressed using load duration curve analysis. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of the implications of full consideration of thermal energy in power grid regulations.
