PLAINS TWP. — Construction has begun on Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center’s campus for an $18 million central utility plant intended to provide clean energy for decades.
Geisinger officials said the plant’s cogeneration infrastructure, which combines heat and power, is expected to slash the hospital’s energy consumption by 40 percent and save about $1.5 million a year.
The 13,500-square-foot plant is being constructed near the Robert M. Pearsall Heart Hospital.
