SOMERS — University of Wisconsin System President Ray Cross is north of 70 years old, and while he might look fantastic, even he admits there’s quite a bit of maintenance involved in keeping his body in tip-top condition.

Cross, a former design engineer, received an up-close look at aging mechanical devices and out-of-date operating systems in an underground tour of University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Tuesday.

He was joined by Parkside Chancellor Deborah Ford, Parkside Director of Facilities Management John Bruch and other university officials.

The tour stopped at several areas school officials said are in dire need of maintenance or replacement and included in the UW System capital budget request.

Gov. Tony Evers proposed more than $2.5 billion in his two-year building projects budget, with nearly half of it going toward upgrades and renovations for the UW System.
