IDEA is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s IDEA Innovation Award.
The IDEA Innovation Award is intended to bring visibility to the great work and forward progress of IDEA members, highlighting collaboration between operating district energy systems and our business partners and technology providers.
As is typical for this prestigious award, the selection process was a difficult one with so many outstanding submissions. The IDEA Innovation Award Committee, after thorough review and discussion, have selected the following winner.

“This years’ Innovation Award contest was one of the most diverse and crowded competitions in recent memory.” said Bob Smith of RMF Engineering and Innovation Award Committee Chair. “There was quite a variety of technologies that all have notable merit. The Alexandra District Energy Utility (ADEU) Phase 4 SmartREIT District Energy System, employing air-source heat pumps, evaporative fluid coolers, condensing boilers, and geo-exchange fields to efficiently heat and cool a network of retail and commercial customers stood out above all of this year’s submissions.”

This year’s winner, Lulu Island Energy, certainly advances that tradition by sharing valuable insights on how community-scale district energy systems can leverage reliable, renewable thermal energy from the earth.”
