Summary

Alongside the mine water scheme are brand new £4m urban solar parks, some of the UK's largest, which will provide green electricity to run the mine water heating system, as well as other Council buildings.

We have invested in these projects over the past two years, using the expertise of the Coal Authority and with funding from the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) - both the Heat Network Investment Programme, and the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

The Gateshead Energy Company has worked with contractors Balfour Beatty and Drilcorp and suppliers GEA Refrigeration and SAS Energy to bring the projects forward.
