Full Job Description
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES & KEY RESULTS
- This position will have overall management responsibility for a large District Energy system in downtown San Francisco.
- Overall responsibility for establishing a strong and effective organization with a high level of engagement including strong communications, training/employee development, recruiting and succession planning
- Oversight of all plant and distribution operating functions including safety, compliance, customer reliability, maintenance planning, capital project execution.
- Responsible for the implementation, management and updating of all plant procedures, site policies, training programs, safety programs and work practices.
- Manage overall P&L including budget development, monthly reporting and variance analysis and capex projects to improve profitability
- Maintain and expand the customer base including development of new product offerings and services such as low-carbon steam, off-pipe microgrids, etc.
- Maintain regulatory compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations and associated permits.
- Obtain approvals and execute contracts in accordance with assigned authority
- Asset integration: Lead the integration of any acquisition or developed project into the local fleet.
- Streamline administration of critical business functions including personnel management, budgeting, contract management, training, regulatory compliance and purchasing.
- Maintain high system safety, reliability, efficiency and unit production cost goals while driving “continuous improvement”
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Detailed technical and operations understanding, and managerial experience related to thermal systems including startup, operations and maintenance.
- Demonstrable ability to communicate, present and influence key stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Ability to formulate appropriate technical and business plans and objectives and direct their effective accomplishment through company personnel and consultants.
- Strong internal and external networking and cross-functional instincts. Ability to coordinate with others from across the organization and outside of formal lines of authority.
- Experience Managing a Union Workforce including grievance resolution and contract negotiation.
- Superior listening, written, and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; Business, Engineering, or related technical field preferred. An MBA is a plus.
- 10 years of extensive experience related to energy systems, district heating and/or cooling systems, technology and operations preferred.
- At least 3 years’ experience leading and developing people.
- At least 3 years’ experience within technical sales and marketing.
