Summary
Cornwall’s lithium enriched geothermal waters could “potentially” fulfil the UK’s lithium demand, as well as generate heat, the CEO of Cornish Lithium told the Welding Institute's (TWI's) geothermal industry panel meeting.
There is growing sector acceptance for geothermal in the UK, with schemes such as the deep geothermal project at the Eden Project in Cornwall pioneering the technology.
He continued: “The current energy security issue has really highlighted the opportunity that geothermal represents, especially when it can be combined with the extraction of valuable elements.
“Technology for extraction is improving and the opportunity for district heating is rapidly rising.”
