Utilities Electrician

Mon - Fri 7:00A.M. -3:30P.M.
Position Focus:
Maintains electrical distribution systems throughout the University between 480-13,800 volts.
Essential Duties
1. Performs assignments under limited supervision. 2. Under the direction of the supervisor(s), assumes general responsibility for the completion of assignments. 3. Secures material supplies and equipment when authorized. 4. Performs installations, calibrations, preventive maintenance and repair of power plant and electrical distribution equipment. Including, but not limited to, panel boards, switchgear, variable frequency drives, relays, generators, excitation equipment, motors, protective devices, transformers, batteries, UPS systems and all other high voltage (480V – 13,800V) equipment. 5. Use test equipment, diagnostic and safety apparatus as appropriate to perform the essential duties as listed above. 6. Maintain and update as necessary, all electrical drawings and vendor manuals pertinent to the power plants. 7. Work closely with Physical Plant High Voltage Electricians to ensure consistent and reliable electrical service to all campus customers. 8. Reads, understands, uses and updates blueprints, drawings, schematics and procedures as outlined in service manuals. 9. Determines the manpower and material requirements and the means and methods to be used in accomplishing work assignments and recommends changes. 10. Maintains cleanliness of work areas. 11. Maintains spare parts inventory and orders parts as required. Coordinates with Watch Engineer when locking and tagging plant systems. 12. Performs related duties when required with maintenance staff. 13. Observes safety standards and practices. 14. Observes and assists outside contractors for compliance with Yale standards. Trains new hires/transferees regarding proper maintenance and safety standards and practices.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent and at least four (4) years of high voltage electrical maintenance experience. Demonstrated qualifications and experience in operating/maintenance of high voltage equipment in a power generation or similar environment.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
· CT E2 unlimited journeyman electrical license.
· Valid CT driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
This is maintenance work requiring physical exertion. Employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds. Employees in this classification are subject to emergency call back procedures twenty-four hours a day, as may be required in order to maintain continuous operation of a facility.
