IDEA President & CEO Thornton Congratulates Campus Energy 2025 Organizers and Participants

By District Energy posted 02-12-2025 14:30

On behalf of the IDEA Board of Directors and our nearly 3000 members worldwide, I want to thank the IDEA staff for their hard work and dedication in organizing a highly successful CampusEnergy2025 Conference last week in Boston, MA.

With nearly 1,540 people in attendance, a new record for IDEA, coupled with 138 exhibit booths, 140 technical presentations and panel discussions across six tracks, 18 poster presentations, pre- and post-conference workshops, the quality of the conference was top tier.  There was a palpable buzz in the air at CampusEnergy2025.

I also want to thank all our participants, in particular the presenters, moderators and panelists, who contributed such highly relevant technical and best practice information to help our industry advance the mission to “Accelerate the Energy Transition”.

The depth and breadth of conference content was superb.  Highly relevant and practical.  What sets apart IDEA conferences from others is our collegial environment of sharing experience derived from actual projects. Cities, communities and campuses are seeking real-time solutions and real-world insight to navigate complex energy and environmental challenges.

IDEA members are actively investing in district energy systems by aggregating thermal energy users to scale, then integrating more efficient technologies and clever innovations that produce valuable benefits for campuses, cities and communities, as well as benefits to the grid, the local economy and the environment.

At IDEA, you see it. You hear it. You feel it. You learn it. And you are inspired by it. This approach has served IDEA members well over our 116 year history.  It is vitally important that IDEA continue to connect, inform and advance the global district energy industry.

In the quiet aftermath of the event, I find myself reading and absorbing the range of excellent technical presentations on the conference app.  I urge attendees to do the same, to review sessions that they may have missed and see the depth and width of the conference.  District energy is not a single solution, but a whole quiver of technologies that are a best-fit for the local environment.

Please make plans to join IDEA2025 in Minneapolis, MN June 2-5 for “Aggregate, Integrate, Innovate”, our 116th Annual Conference & Trade Show that will feature segments on District Energy & Data Centers;  Geothermal District Energy Networks, and Future Energy:  Nuclear, Hydrogen and Other Approaches.  IDEA2025 will be hosted by Cordia Energy.  I hope to see you there.
