Best Practices in District Energy/CHP: Geothermal Symposium

When:  Nov 29, 2023 from 13:00 to 16:00 (ET)

Join us on Wednesday, November 29th from 1:00 - 4:00 PM EST for an in-depth exploration of geothermal design, planning, and implementation. Presenters will lead participants through the technical considerations for site-specific geothermal design, and present a series of real-world case studies to demonstrate the principles in action.

This symposium will include a review of geothermal technical considerations; the design and planning processes; options and benchmarks for construction and operations; best practices for geothermal project management, and more. Participants will come away with a list of resources they can use in evaluating geothermal technologies for their own systems.

Presenters:
• Robert “Bert” Bland, Associate Vice President of Energy and Sustainability, Cornell University
• Ted Borer, Director, Energy Plants, Princeton University
• Catherine Altadonna, Office of Capital Projects, Princeton University
• Brian Robertson, Owner’s Representative, Princeton University
• Megan Mikrut, Project Manager, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company
• Ralph Merritt, Mechanical Engineering Manager, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company
• Robert Hanson, Manager of Campus Energy, Carleton College
• Mark Worthington, Owner and Founder, Underground Energy

This Symposium is being produced as part of IDEA’s cooperative agreement through the US Department of Energy, Verification and Validation of Performance with Dissemination of Best Practices in District Energy and CHP for Enhanced Resiliency, Energy Efficiency. In addition to the Geothermal Symposium, IDEA is hosting a 4-part Project Life Cycle Webinar Series, a series of podcasts, District Energy Magazine articles, and a final report on the study findings in early 2024.
