LONG-TERM CONCESSION A New Model for Comprehensive Energy Management

Session Abstract

On a university campus with hundreds of buildings serving thousands of

students, faculty, staff, and others, reliable and efficient energy management is critical. It is also tangential to the core function of teaching and learning. That is why the new approach to district energy management: the comprehensive long-term lease and concession agreement was developed.

ENGIE signed the first such agreement with The Ohio State University in

2017. Ohio State uses electricity, natural gas, steam and condensate, chilled water, and geothermal generation plants to power and regulate temperature in 490 buildings across a 2,000-acre campus. The utility infrastructure serves around 100,000 people each day—including everyone from 14,000 students.
