District energy offers more efficient heating or cooling supply vs. individual systems. But it's critical to ensure that district energy systems fully realize their potential in making urban environment sustainable.
More attention to be paid to the system components. E.g., there can be hundreds of motors and variable speed drives in district energy systems, which run fans, pumps and compressors. Evaluating what effect they have on the overall system sustainability, not only in terms of efficiency but also material usage is crucial for stating the system is truly sustainable.
Learn what motor technologies have the highest efficiency and the least environmental impact, and how drives can optimize the system design to lower CO2 footprint.
