Environmental Footprint Benefits from Boiler Water Treatments Improvements

Session Abstract

A 600 psig boiler system was using a phosphate-precipitating treatment to control deposition. The plant was required to reduce phosphate discharged amounts, so an all-polymer program was recommended by SUEZ. Simultaneously, it was suggested to improve chemical control and boiler cycles control. The change was successful in reducing phosphate discharged by 200 kg/yr, and the new control strategy reduced water consumption by 1MMgal/yr and CO2 emissions by 200 T/yr. The overall project generated operational savings of $100,000/yr.
