Winter Storm Uri was a major winter storm with widespread impacts across the United States, Northern Mexico, and parts of Canada from Feb. 13 to 17, 2021. This session will dive into the vulnerabilities brought to light, exposing the underlying issues, the interconnection of infrastructure, and its cascading effects. This will include exploring how the supreme cold affected gas markets from Texas to Minnesota and caused once-in-a-lifetime gas prices at extreme highs, as well as diving into multiple electricity wholesale markets that also spiked while its infrastructure reached emergency operating levels. This session will focus on a case study from University of Arkansas of Medical Sciences (UAMS).
