Case Study: Successfully Designing, Installing, and Testing a Microgrid

08-14-2017 11:03

Summary

This presentation describes the author's experience in designing, implementing, testing, installing, and commissioning several case study microgrid control systems. The case study projects include university, electric utility, gas liquefaction, oil refining, and mining industry microgrid power systems. These projects are all in service and fully operational. The case studies will be explained from the context of the practical implementation of several standard products and services the author has provided these end users. These products and services include system testing, seamless islanding detection and decoupling, automatic grid synchronization, intertie contract dispatching, adaptive protection, subcycle load shedding, islanded frequency control, and system design services. In conclusion, the presentation shares lessons learned from 13 years of providing microgrid control and protection systems.
