IDEA Letter to Duke Administration Outlining CHP Experience of Peer Campuses

04-05-2018 14:23

In 2016 Duke University announced plans to build a new Combined Heat and Power plant in partnership with Duke Energy on their main campus in Durham. Since the announcement, the university has faced some opposition largely related to concerns around fuel sources and potential environmental impacts.

IDEA has submitted a letter to the Duke Administration outlining the experience of a small number of peer IDEA member institutions who have implemented or optimized CHP as part of their Climate Action Plans amidst ongoing efforts for enhanced energy efficiency and resiliency.  We respectfully offer the experience of IDEA member campus district energy systems who are working diligently to balance the environmental, economic and energy reliability requirements of mission-critical research institutions.
