Session Abstract

Xcel Energy owns and operates a district energy system in downtown Denver offering steam heating and chilled water cooling to a variety of large customers. To improve the operation and management of this system, Xcel Energy has deployed analytics software using near real time data. This software has been customized to compile monthly data from customer heat exchangers for monthly billing and analysis of operational data. Analytics and dashboards have also been developed to evaluate the operation of multiple chilled water plants including key metrics such as deviation from setpoint, system delta T, efficiencies, and chemical levels. This tool has helped Xcel Energy save time processing data and lower costs through efficiency.
