DOE Commits More Than $171M to Expand Geothermal Energy Sector

The Department of Energy is making $171.5 million in funding available to support both “field-scale” tests of projects related to electricity generation from geothermal resources and exploratory drilling aimed at confirming promising geothermal prospects.

Letters of Intent regarding this funding opportunity must be submitted to the department by March 27, and full applications are due April 30.

“Work under this opportunity will directly support our commitments to advance energy addition, reduce energy costs for American families and businesses, and unleash American energy dominance and innovation,” said Kyle Haustveit, assistant secretary of the DOE’s Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office, in a written statement.
